Is Kerry finding his stride?
In a speech to the Detroit Economic Club, John Kerry not only offers up his positive plans contrasted with Bush's failings, but now he takes a page from the GOP PR successes: he uses his opponent's words against him.
"Of course, the President would have us believe that his record is the result of bad luck, not bad decisions. That he's faced the wrong circumstances, not made the wrong choices. In fact, this President has created more excuses than jobs. His is the Excuse Presidency: Never wrong, Never Responsible, Never to Blame. President Bush's desk isn't where the buck stops - it's where the blame begins. He's blamed just about everyone but himself and his administration for America's economic problems. And if he's missed you, don't worry - he's still got 48 days left until the election."[emphasis added]That last bit is just what George W says about Kerry's supposed flip-flops. Next up is for Kerry to take a cue from Al Franken (as reported on Daily Kos) who said...
"Mr. president, Colin Powell told you about this war that 'if you break it, you own it.' And now you're going around talking about an 'ownership society.' Well, Mr. President, let me tell you what you own. A million jobs lost. You own that. A thousand soldiers lost. You own that. 1.4 million new people living below the poverty line. You own that. 1.2 million less people covered by health insurance. You own that. A seventeen percent medicare increase. You own that. Health care costs skyrocketing. You own that. The tax burden increasing amongst the middle class. You own that. Mr. President, if you want to talk about an ownership society, let's talk about what you own."

hmmmm i would just like to point out that i said he should do this like last week.
i told you so.
He spend the frist half being negitive, and the second half contrasting bush's "negitive" polices against his plans.
He needs to drop the frist and and expand the last half.
While I agree with cube's strategic analysis, I disagree with his depiction of the Kerry/Edwards message. They have been possitive; speaking about what they planned for America. However, the (right-wing dominated) media has been ignoring that message--it doesn't make good TV--for pseudo-poll numbers that show Bush up by eleven one day and then back in a dead heat a few days later. Kerry has been possitive since his acceptance speech but the media has been ignoring him. I smell an "Al Gore"-ification here. The media has been slow to discredit the Swifties, harping on Kerry's mispronounciation of "Lambeau" while giving Bush a pass on all of his "Bushism" and flip-flops. And now, we keep getting the message that Kerry is being "weak" in responding to Bush's attacks; that Kerry has not really defined himself or what he intends for his administration. This is patently untrue but for the way the media chooses to report on Kerry. They have all the cards and are playing them as they themselves decide.
Y'know, conservatives often point to a decade old study that showed a majority of reporters vote democratic as "proof" of a liberal bias in the media. What these folks fail to recognize is that it is the editors who decide what actually gets published/broadcast and just what kind of slant the story will have. The supposedly "liberal media" is in reality an obvious lapdog for the right wing.
